ABOUT FOWACE
History
Liberia is a war torn country that was hit by Ebola epidemic in 2014 to 2016 with over 4,000 deaths. Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Women accounts for over 50% of the population. Women empowerment is critical to eradicating poverty and accelerating national and global development. The future growth of Liberia depends on meeting the needs and aspirations of women and children. Foundation for Women and Children Empowerment (FOWACE) was established in 2017 in response to the aftermath of the last Ebola outbreak. FOWACE is a women and children-centered organization. We believe that women are the glue that holds families and communities together. We provide lifesaving programs that empower marginalized and vulnerable women and children living in extreme poverty in rural Liberia, West Africa. Our mission is to provide women and children with the skills and tools they need to ‘Heal, Grow & Thrive’.
Our work focuses on addressing the economic, food security and psychosocial needs of women and children by developing individual and community capacity through life skills training programs that increase food security, literacy, access to justice, vocational and nutritional knowledge and skills. We provide counseling for individuals and families, community education sessions and we are advocates for the rights of all children and women.
