Access to Justice for Women and Young Girls in Rural Liberia
The use of violence against women and young girls as a weapon of war during the civil war in Liberia is a tragic reality that has had lasting effects on survivors and communities. Despite the end of the conflict, many women and girls continue to face various forms of violence, including rape, exploitation, and domestic abuse. This pervasive violence creates a climate of fear and impunity, particularly in rural communities where access to justice is limited and women don`t have the resources to seek justice. FOWACE works in more than 30 communities on Access to Justice for Women and Young Girls. The program educates women and young girls both in communities and schools about their rights, the available legal system, builds strong relationship between the police and the communities, and provides support both financially and morally to survivors who want to seek justice. The program also does rehabilitation of survivors through counseling, and small grant for business initiatives.
